How to Prepare for Your Lash Lift Appointment, What to Expect

How to Prepare for Your Lash Lift Appointment: Your Complete Guide

A lash lift is the perfect solution for anyone looking to enhance their natural lashes without the need for extensions or daily curling. This semi-permanent treatment curls and lifts your natural lashes from the base, giving them a more open, longer, and voluminous appearance. However, to ensure you get the best results and a long-lasting lift, it’s essential to prepare properly before your appointment.

In this blog post, we’ll guide you through everything you need to do to prepare for your lash lift appointment, from what to avoid beforehand to how to care for your lashes afterward. With the right preparation, you’ll walk away with gorgeous, lifted lashes that last for weeks.

Why Proper Preparation Is Important

Before diving into the steps, it’s important to understand why preparing for a lash lift is crucial. Proper preparation ensures that your natural lashes are in their best condition to hold the curl and that the lifting solution can work its magic without any interference. It also helps reduce the risk of any irritation or issues during the treatment.

Failing to prepare can lead to uneven results, shorter-lasting lifts, or even the need to re-do the treatment, costing you extra time and money. With just a few simple steps, you can ensure a smoother process and better results.

Step 1: Avoid Using Waterproof Mascara Before Your Appointment

Waterproof mascara is great for making your lashes smudge-proof and long-lasting, but it can also leave a residue that’s difficult to fully remove, even with a good makeup remover. This residue can create a barrier that prevents the lifting solution from fully absorbed by your lashes, leading to less effective results.

How to prepare:
– Stop using waterproof mascara at least 2-3 days before your lash lift appointment.
– Instead, switch to a regular mascara that’s easy to remove and won’t leave any residue on your lashes.

Step 2: Cleanse Your Lashes Thoroughly on the Day of the Appointment

Arriving with clean lashes is crucial for the best lash lift results. Any oils, makeup, or dirt left on your lashes can create a barrier that stops the lifting solution from properly adhering to your natural lashes. This can affect how well your lashes hold the lift.

How to prepare:
– On the day of your appointment, cleanse your face with a gentle, oil-free cleanser.
– Be sure to focus on your lash line to ensure there’s no leftover mascara, eyeliner, or dirt as that’s where the lotion is going to be applied to make the magic work.
– Do not use any oily makeup removers, as they can leave a residue on your lashes that can prevent the solution from working.

Step 3: Avoid Wearing Eye Makeup to Your Appointment

While it’s tempting to apply a full face of makeup for your lash lift, it’s best to go makeup-free for your appointment, especially around the eyes. Makeup products like mascara, eyeliner, or even eyeshadow can interfere with the lifting process. Additionally, your lash technician will need to clean your lashes if you arrive with makeup, which can take extra time and may affect the results.

How to prepare:
– Arrive with a bare face, particularly around your eyes and lashes. Especially face powers as they are catch on your lash line no matter how hard you try to avoid it.
– Skip mascara, eyeliner, eyeshadow, and any products on your eyelids.
– If you wear contact lenses, consider wearing glasses on the day of your appointment, as you’ll need to remove your contacts during the treatment.

We had seen clients come in with stubborn mascara residue which we were unable to fully remove and this resulted in a very uneven lift with lashes lifting in different angle on the same eye, and also different angles on both eyes. You certainly do not want this to happen!

Step 4: Discontinue the Use of Lash Serums/eye products Beforehand

While lash serums are great for enhancing lash growth, they can make your lashes too soft to hold a lift effectively. If you regularly use a lash growth serum, you may want to take a break from it before your lash lift.

Eye products such as eye creams, face oils can also coat your lashes and weaken the effect lift significantly.

How to prepare:
– Stop using your lash serum/eye products at least 48 hours before your lash lift appointment.
– After the treatment, wait a few days before resuming your lash serum, so the lift has time to settle properly.

Step 5: Avoid Caffeine and Hydrate Well

You might not think caffeine could affect your lash lift, but it can! Drinking coffee, energy drinks, or other caffeinated beverages can make you feel jittery, and even slight movements during the procedure can affect the results. Additionally, caffeine can make your eyes twitch or blink more frequently, making it harder for the technician to apply the lifting solution.

How to prepare:
– On the day of your appointment, avoid consuming caffeinated beverages like coffee, tea, or energy drinks.
– Instead, drink plenty of water to stay hydrated and help keep your body calm and relaxed.

Step 6: Plan for a Patch Test if You Have Sensitive Skin

If you have sensitive skin or have had allergic reactions to beauty treatments in the past, it’s a good idea to ask your lash technician for a patch test before your appointment. A patch test ensures that you won’t have an allergic reaction to the products used in the lash lift. A reaction to a lash lift is extremely rare as the treatment lotion does not come into contact with your skin. After many years of treatment, we’ve only had one client with very reactive skin and she was going through a very tough stage of her life and her body was reactive to a lot of things which she normally wouldn’t be.

How to prepare:
– Reach out to your salon at least 48 hours before your appointment to request a patch test.
– The technician will apply a small amount of the lifting solution to your skin to see if any irritation occurs.

Step 7: Schedule the Appointment at the Right Time

When booking your lash lift appointment, it’s important to keep in mind the timing. Lash lifts generally last 6-8 weeks, and you’ll want to make sure you book at a time when you can fully enjoy the results.

How to prepare:
– If you’re planning for a special event, book your appointment 2-3 days beforehand. This gives the lift time to fully set and allows any initial aftercare steps to be completed.

-Booking couple days earlier is highly recommended as in case the results is not what you’re after: too curly/too natural, we will have the time to rebook you in to fix the issue before your special event.

Step 8: Prepare for Aftercare

After your lash lift, there’s minimal maintenance required, but there are still a few key things to keep in mind to ensure your results last as long as possible.

Aftercare:
– Many lash lift places will advice you to to avoid water, steam, and sweating for the first 24 hours after your lash lift. However, in our many years of experience of both doing lash lift treatments as well as getting them done on ourselves, you can get them wet almost immediately without fear of losing the curl. It may lighten the lash tint though!
– Stock up on a lash serum (to make them grow longer and thicker) and lash lift aftercare (to keep them moisturised)  to nourish your lashes after the treatment, and maximise the effect of your lash lift.

What to Expect During Your Lash Lift Appointment

When you arrive at the salon, your lash technician will start by consulting with you about your lash goals. They’ll ask about your natural lash length, desired curl, and any concerns you have. Once you’re ready, the treatment will begin, and here’s what you can expect:

    1. Lash cleansing: Your technician will thoroughly clean your lashes to remove any oils or dirt.
    2. Application of silicone shields: Small silicone pads will be placed on your eyelids, and your lashes will be lifted onto the pads using a water soluble adhesive which will be washed off at the end of the treatment.
    3. Lifting solution: A special lifting solution will be applied to your lashes to help them hold the curl.
    4. Setting solution: After the lifting solution is removed, a setting solution will be applied to lock in the curl.
    5. Lash tint: A personalised lash tint colour of your preference will be applied to make sure the lashes looks even longer
    6. Moisturizing aftercare: A nourishing serum will be used to hydrate your lashes and protect them after the treatment.
