10 Essential Tips on How to Make Your Eyelash Extensions Last Longer

Eyelash extensions are a perfect way to enhance your natural beauty and cut down on your daily makeup routine. However, to make the most out of your lash investment, proper care is essential. Follow these expert tips to ensure your eyelash extensions last longer and continue looking fabulous for weeks.

1. Most salons would tell you to Keep Your Lashes Dry for the First 24-48 Hours

However, our latest technology in-house adhesive coupled with our glue bonder sealant will allows you to wet your lashes immediately after treatment!

If you’ve had your eyelash extensions done at another salon, please make sure to follow aftercare instructions given by your lash technician and avoid water, steam, and sweat for at least 24 to 48 hours. This allows the adhesive to fully dry and bond with your natural lashes, ensuring they stay in place.

Tip: Refrain from showering, swimming, or using steam rooms during this period for best results.

2. Avoid Oil-Based Products

Oil can weaken the adhesive used for eyelash extensions, causing them to fall out prematurely. To protect your lashes, switch to oil-free products, especially makeup removers, we recommend a water based type such as micellar water!

Tip: Be extra cautious with facial oils, eye creams, and serums that might transfer onto your lash line. Apply them around the area instead of slapping everything in! Aha we know you love doing that!

3. Sleep on Your Back and Side

Sleeping on your side or stomach can crush and distort your lashes. Try to sleep on your back to protect them from being pressed against your pillow as it can cause the direction of your natural lashes to look really messy which means you will end up with messy looking extensions. It is especially true if you are a dedicated side sleeper and LOVES to sleep on one specific side, we can literally see how messy the extensions look on that eye! Not a pretty sight.

Tip: Use a silk or satin pillowcase to reduce friction, which can help preserve your extensions overnight.

4. Cleaning Your Lashes TOO GENTLY

One of most problem we’ve seen throughout the years is that clients are way too gentle when it comes to cleansing and unfortunately that’s not going to help you get all the dirt out. Contrary to popular belief of not getting them wet, it’s essential to clean your eyelash extensions regularly, with ENOUGH STRENGTH, to remove dirt, oil, and makeup residue. Focus your strength on the roots of the lashes as that’s where all the nasties accumulate and rinse with plenty of water after.

Use a gentle, lash-friendly cleanser and a soft brush to clean your lashes every few days and ONE THE DAY OF YOUR INFILL. We have to put this in caps because it is so important to come to your appointment with clean lashes or the glue is not going to bond well and you will see your extensions fall out quickly. Applying extensions works similarly to sticking a photo on the wall, the wall needs to be cleaned and smooth in order for the photo to stick or the photo may seem like it’s on but will fall out quickly after.

Tip: Invest in a lash-specific cleanser and brush that’s oil-free and safe for extensions to keep them fluffy and fresh.

5. Avoid Mascara and Eyelash Curlers

One of the benefits of lash extensions is you don’t need mascara! Using mascara, especially oil-based or waterproof formulas, can clump your extensions and and this has similar effect as CLUSTER lashes which means your natural lashes will be damaged as they won’t be able to fall out naturally with their own natural lash cycle and you will see huge gaps in your natural lashes after a couple weeks.

Similarly, avoid using eyelash curlers, as they can break or damage both your extensions and natural lashes.

Tip: If you think your extensions is too natural for your liking, try out our Russian volume which will set look very natural with just a bit more volume.

6. Be Gentle with Your Lashes

Your lash extensions are delicate and require gentle care. Avoid rubbing your eyes, pulling on your lashes, or sleeping with your face pressed against the pillow. Rough handling can weaken the adhesive and cause premature shedding.

However we know this can’t be prevented as we’ve clients who just can’t help but pull on their extensions when they are feeling stress or anxious.

Tip:When cleansing your face or removing makeup, dab gently around the eye area rather than rubbing.

7. Schedule Regular Refills

To keep your lashes looking full, schedule refill appointments every 2-3 weeks. During these appointments, an experienced lash technician should replace any extensions that have naturally fallen out, remove the ones that has grown out and look messy or super long and make sure it looks like a fresh set every time.

Tip: Don’t wait too long between refills, as gaps in your lashes can make them look uneven or sparse.

8. Avoid Heat and Steam

Heat and steam can weaken the bond of the adhesive, leading to premature shedding of your extensions. Avoid activities such as using saunas, steam rooms, or standing too close to the heat from ovens, bbq or hot pots. If you’re a smoker, avoid holding your cigarette too close to your extensions. The heat will also cause your extensions to lose its curl and have ‘spider legs’ if the tips of the extensions is burnt.

Tip: If you enjoy hot showers or baths, try keeping your face away from the direct steam to protect your lashes.

9. Brush Your Lashes Daily

Brushing your lashes daily will help keep them neat and prevent tangling. Use a clean spoolie brush (provided by your lash technician) to gently comb through your extensions in an upward motion. The spoolie is not meant for cleansing and will not do a proper job!

Tip: Brushing your lashes in the morning and after showering will help keep them in top shape and prevent them from sticking together.

10. Choose the Right Lash Length and Thickness

An experienced lash technician will choosing the correct length and thickness for your eyelash extensions that suits the condition of your natural lashes. This is crucial as extensions that are too heavy or long can put strain on your natural lashes, leading to premature shedding.

Tip: Consult with your lash technician to choose a style that suits your natural lashes and enhances your eye shape without causing damage.

By following these aftercare tips, you can extend the life of your eyelash extensions and keep them looking flawless between refills. Simple adjustments to your daily routine, such as using oil-free products, sleeping on your back, and gently cleaning your lashes, will go a long way in maintaining your lash extensions.
